School Council

At Northbourne CE Primary School, our School Council, gives pupils a real voice in shaping school life. Each class elects a councillor every year to represent their peers and share ideas on how to make our school the best it can be.

The School Council meets regularly to discuss issues, make decisions, and organise fundraising events for both the school and chosen charities. Councillors learn to listen respectfully, work collaboratively, and act as positive role models for others — showing our school values of Courage, Compassion, and Community in all they do.

Through their work, councillors develop important skills such as teamwork, communication, and leadership, while helping to ensure that every child feels happy, safe, and valued. At Northbourne, we believe that by giving children a voice, we help them to take ownership of their school and nurture excellence together.

How to Become a School Councillor

  • Each class elects one representative every September.

  • Children who would like to be councillors prepare a short speech explaining why they would be a good choice.

  • Classmates vote confidentially to choose their representative.

  • Councillors hold their role for the whole school year and are expected to attend meetings regularly and model our school values at all times.
